Shining a Light on Great Screenplays and TV Pilots Written by Women
The Women’s List is proud to announce its second annual list of great scripts written by women. From body-swapping Christmas comedies to tense historical dramas to mind-blowing science fiction adventures, the selected scripts reflect the best in storytelling by women. Film and television are two of the most powerful forces shaping how women are perceived. Yet, women are often underrepresented behind the camera. In 2024, only 25% of screenwriters, and only a third of television writers, were women. The Women’s List aims to change this by providing a platform for exceptional screenplays and TV pilots written by women.
The Women’s List is a non-profit organization created by a volunteer group of WGA writers, DGA directors, and SAG actors, among others. Our goal is to become the go-to resource for unrecognized talent and the filmmakers searching for their stories.
Most important, we are working to change the narrative that women writers are less accomplished than their male counterparts and that their stories are less significant. Through those stories, we’ll also improve the perception of women around the world in all walks of life.
The critical thing is that this is not just another contest; it’s a treasure hunt. We won’t limit ourselves to half a dozen “winners”: we’re looking for as many outstanding scripts written by women as we can find.
“There are stories to be told that are still untold and characters to be portrayed that haven’t been portrayed correctly so there’s work to be done.” - Shonda Rhimes
