Frequently Asked Questions
Who can enter?
The Women’s List is open to all writers who identify as women.
How many scripts can I submit?
One script per female-identifyuing writer or team, please. Choose your best! Blind submissions only. Feature scripts must be 120 pages or less, one-hour pilot scripts must be 65 pages or less and half-hour pilots must be 45 or less.
What do you mean by a “blind submission”?
The name of the script should be the only thing on the title page. Do not put any identifying information on the script. No names, agent contacts, registration information, logos for previous awards, or anything else that could tell readers who you are and, potentially, influence their opinion.
What are the submission fees?
Fees are 45.00 for early birds (February 13 to March 7, 2025) 55.00 for regular entry (March 8 – May 8, 2025 ) and 70.00 for late entry (May 8 – May 31, 2025). We hope to eliminate these fees down the road. In the meantime, if you are financially unable to afford submitting your script, please contact us about a fee waiver.
How many winners will there be?
The Women’s List is not a contest; it’s a search for great scripts written by women. We’re not looking for one “winner” or even a handful of “winners”. Unlike many of the for-profit contests, writers will not be competing for a handful of slots. We’re looking for as many wonderful scripts as we can find.
Who are your readers?
We have recruited industry professionals, writers, directors, actors and producers in various specialties to read the scripts. If you’re a pro and want to help us uplift the female gaze, please let us know. We need you.
Are you offering coverage or notes?
No. There are enough competitions out there that purport to teach you how to write. We’re looking for highly polished scripts that are ready to shoot tomorrow. At that level, the only notes that matter will be those of the people making the film or show.
My writing partner is male. Can I submit a script we’ve written together?
No. Our mission is supporting women so, as much as we love men, The Women’s List is focused solely on the work of women writers.
